President Donald Trump has proposed that Jordan and Egypt accept more Palestinian refugees from Gaza to alleviate the ongoing humanitarian crisis. He discussed this idea during a conversation with Jordan's King Abdullah II and plans to speak with Egypt's President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. Trump suggested that relocating Palestinians could be a temporary or permanent solution, aiming to provide them with peaceful living conditions away from the conflict.
This proposal comes amid a fragile ceasefire between Hamas and Israel, which has led to the release of some hostages and prisoners. The conflict, initiated by a Hamas attack on Israel in 2023, has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and widespread displacement. Israel faces international accusations of war crimes, which it denies.
In conjunction with this initiative, the Trump administration has lifted a ban on delivering 2,000-pound bombs to Israel, a measure previously intended to curb civilian casualties in the Gaza conflict. This move aligns with Trump's broader strategy to support Israel while seeking solutions to the Palestinian refugee crisis.
